Vinyl install guide
Your kit is pre-cut to fit, so there's no trimming and no cutting involved. Work in a clean, dry spot out of direct sunlight, take your time, and it's a straightforward job.
What you'll need
A squeegee or a credit card edge, a microfibre cloth, isopropyl alcohol or panel prep, and a hairdryer or heat gun. A plastic trim restorer is optional but recommended.
Prep
Wash the front bar, then wipe the fog light surrounds with isopropyl alcohol and let them dry fully. Keep wax, grease and polish off the surface. Raised or damaged paint such as stone chips can affect the final finish, so make sure the area is clean and smooth first. For the closest colour match, dress the lower trim with a plastic restorer before you start.
Fitting
- Lay the four pieces out and check which goes where, driver and passenger. They are marked with D and P between the two pieces.
- Peel the vinyl off the backing.
- Position the piece on the surround, then squeegee firmly from the centre outwards to push the air out.
- Tuck the oversized edge of the large piece into the panel gap and warm it gently to set it in place.
- Warm the edges of each piece and press them down to lock them in, without overheating any one spot. Repeat for all four.
After fitting
Leave it 48 hours before washing so the adhesive can set, and avoid pressure washing close to the edges.
Done right, it reads like it came from the factory.
